toasting a good day

May 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It is Friday and as usual I am out with my friends to dinner. However tonight one of them decided that we should venture out of the city (our usual haunt because we live close to it and we can just walk there and back). Instead we took a train to the suburb – to Camberwell for dinner at this Italian barn of a restaurant called Sofia. It is known more for its humongous servings of food rather than quality. It wasn’t my choice and accordingly to the lack of any great expectations on my part, I wasn’t surprised that the food was just bordering average.

After that we adjourned to a nearby cafe/bar/restaurant called Magic City. Despite the gaudy name, it is quite a stylishly decked out place with a separate cosy bar. We had coffee and some drinks. It was an apt moment to toast a day of significant achievement. What better way to do so than with a Lychee Martini, complete with a vanilla bean stick that is used to stir the drink and to add to its perfume and taste. Salut! And may there be more reasons for celebrations.
